Doll Lab Ep. 30: TPE vs Silicone – Softness, Realism & Details Compared
Today’s Doll Lab feature is a little different — instead of reviewing a single doll, I’m doing a full comparison between TPE and Silicone dolls.
Even though I’ve tested countless silicone dolls, this is actually the first time I’ve properly tested a TPE doll on camera.
So if you’ve ever wondered which material is softer, more realistic, easier to pose, or better for photography — this review is for you.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what we explored in the full video:
1. Softness & Touch
TPE dolls are incredibly soft — almost like marshmallows.
The chest, hips, and belly compress easily under pressure, giving a super enveloping, plush feel.
One interesting detail:
The chest on this TPE model is firmer and bouncier than the rest of the body, likely to maintain shape. It gives a springy, elastic sensation.
Silicone dolls feel different.
Most have gel-filled areas, giving a denser, more consistent softness — cushiony rather than springy. Realistic, uniform, and stable across brands.
And yes…
You can literally press an entire fist into a TPE doll’s belly.
Silicone? Not happening. Even with full strength, it won’t cave the same way.
If you love hugging a plush, squishy doll — TPE definitely wins the softness category.
2. Body Details & Texture
Silicone excels in realism.
You’ll see:
fine skin pores
soft shading
detailed veins
natural tone transitions
clear contouring around abdomen, legs, and joints
Even static shots look incredibly lifelike.
TPE has simpler body makeup — natural shading and soft color, but less defined textures.
It’s smooth, cute, and visually pleasant, just not as hyper-detailed as silicone.
If realism and photography matter to you, silicone takes the lead here.
3. Intimate Area Comparison
When it comes to private areas, the differences become more obvious.
TPE dolls:
overall shape is fine
fewer micro-details
little to no pores on the mons or labia
colors can look more “plastic”
extremely stretchy and enveloping
very strong “wrapping” sensation
Silicone dolls:
realistic textures, folds, and shading
natural color presentation
sculpted details closer to real skin
ideal for photos and visual realism
In short:
TPE = interactive feel
Silicone = visual accuracy
4. Final Thoughts — Which Should You Choose?
You really can’t go wrong — it’s all about your preferences.
Choose TPE if you want:
super soft, squishy body parts
strong wrapping sensation
a more flexible, plush feel
Choose Silicone if you prefer:
realistic textures and long-term durability
beautiful body makeup
better photography results
more consistent softness
Both materials have their charm — it just depends on what experience you’re looking for.

What you didn’t mention was, you cannot re-color silicone. I have a silicone doll and some of the color came off one of her breasts and it’s not possible in anyway that I’m aware of to re-color it. Cosmetics DO NOT adhere to silicone. Once the factory color comes off the silicone, it’s gone, and you cannot re-color it. If you enjoy doing your doll’s makeup and/or want to change your doll’s makeup, Get a TPE doll. -Mike
Under normal use, the silicone color won’t come off as long as there’s no heavy friction or harsh chemicals.
If color does fade, you can contact after-sales support — some factories can provide matching pigments for professional touch-ups, though it requires careful application.
If you prefer easy, simple makeup changes or DIY touch-ups, then TPE is definitely the more forgiving choice.
