Doll Lab Ep. 48: Starpery Doll Lubby Review – Testing the New Ballet Skeleton
Following the Chinese New Year break, Doll Lab returns with a new hands-on evaluation focused on engineering and articulation.
In this episode, we examine Lubby from Starpery Doll, a full-size silicone doll equipped with the brand’s recently introduced “Ballet Skeleton” system. This upgraded internal framework is designed to enhance posing flexibility, natural movement, and structural balance while maintaining a lightweight build.
To better understand the engineering behind the design, this review includes both the assembled doll and the exposed internal skeleton structure. By examining the framework directly, we aim to evaluate whether the Ballet Skeleton system offers meaningful improvements in articulation and usability.
Height & Weight
Height: 160 cm
Weight: 26 kg
Lubby stands at 160 centimeters, a height that generally provides balanced proportions and practical usability.
One of the most notable characteristics of this model is its weight reduction. At approximately 26 kilograms, Lubby is significantly lighter than most full-body dolls within the same height category.
This reduced weight contributes to several practical advantages:
Easier lifting and repositioning
More convenient posing adjustments
Improved manageability during long photography or display sessions
For users who prioritize handling convenience, the lightweight construction represents a meaningful design consideration.
Ballet Skeleton System
Starpery’s Ballet Skeleton system is engineered to mimic the flexibility and range of motion associated with professional dancers. The framework introduces several joint innovations intended to improve both stability and movement fluidity.
360° Neck Ball Joint
The neck incorporates a 360-degree ball joint constructed from durable carbon steel. This design allows smooth rotational movement while maintaining structural stability. The articulation enables a wider range of head positioning compared to conventional neck joints.
180° Waist Rotation
The waist joint supports up to 180 degrees of rotation, allowing the body to form natural curves and elegant posing lines. Despite the extended range of motion, the joint maintains controlled resistance to ensure stable positioning.
Fully Articulated Fingers
Lubby’s fingers utilize a segmented metal bone structure that allows each finger to move independently. This articulated design improves grip realism and allows more precise hand positioning for photography or display purposes.
Forearm Rotation
The forearm joints are designed to rotate while maintaining proper wrist alignment. This prevents unnatural twisting and supports smoother arm articulation.
Ballet Foot Joint
The foot skeleton closely mirrors the mechanical structure of a human ankle joint. This enables natural arching and flexing of the foot, which is particularly useful for ballet-inspired poses or standing display positions.
0° Hip Joint Flexibility
The hip joint design allows the thigh to fold upward toward the torso with minimal resistance. This enhanced flexibility supports high-leg poses and improves overall posing versatility.
Facial Design
Lubby features a firm silicone head with fully implanted hair, including:
Implanted scalp hair
Implanted eyebrows
Implanted eyelashes
This configuration contributes to a natural appearance and eliminates the need for wigs.
The firm head structure does not include a ROS oral system by default. However, Starpery provides an optional soft silicone head with ROS functionality as an upgrade option.
Body Makeup & Skin Texture
The body incorporates full-body skin texturing designed to replicate subtle human skin characteristics.
Notable visual elements include:
Light skin grain across the torso
Visible veins and capillary detailing in the chest area
Subtle goosebump-style surface texture
Defined collarbone shading
The hands feature visible tendons and veins that enhance realism during posing. While the hands display slightly simpler micro-texture compared to other body areas, the overall finish remains consistent with Starpery’s typical production quality.
Softness & Material Feel
Due to the lightweight construction, Lubby prioritizes structural balance over ultra-soft material density.
Chest
Lubby features a C-cup chest, which is relatively modest compared to many other dolls tested on Doll Lab. The chest includes gel components but retains a firmer silicone feel overall.
Lower Torso
The lower abdomen and hip region exhibit slightly greater softness than the chest area.
Oberschenkel
The thighs provide moderate softness while revealing the layered internal structure when pressure is applied.
Gesäß
The buttocks do not include gel filling, resulting in a firmer overall feel and limited bounce.
Overall, Lubby’s softness can be described as medium firmness, emphasizing durability and shape retention.
Intimate Design
The intimate area features molded silicone detailing with the following characteristics:
Fuller outer labia structure
More recessed inner labia
Warm deep-pink coloration
The internal channels include subtle texturing designed to provide moderate friction without exaggerated ridges.
